Life Enhancement Activities Program (LEAP)
Description:
LEAP is a psychosocial rehabilitation recovery program that providing skills training classes and activities for consumers who need to improve their skills and functioning levels in order to lead more productive lives within the community. The program provides Rehabilitation Groups, Work-Readied Days and a co-occuring curriculum.
Based on best practice recovery principles, Rehabilitation Groups are designed to provide the skills and training consumers need to develop or regain independent community living. They also help to decrease symptomotology and increase self-awareness to allow consumers to move forward with their recovery process. Classes include transportation, budgeting, socialization skills, coping skills, sexual behavior and substance abuse recovery and relapse prevention.
Work-Readied Days provide consumers with a means for rehabilitation and vocational preparation through three areas - Bessie’s Bistro, Teknology, Trash to Treasures and horticulture.
Entry criteria:
To be eligible for LEAP services, an individual must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a Pinellas or Pasco County Resident.
- Must be over the age of 18.
- Must present psychological symptomatology consistent with ICD-9-CM and DSM IV (Axis I ) diagnosis of a major mental illness
- Must be compliant with medications, not exhibit a danger to self, others or property and have no recent history of aggressive, violent or destructive behavior.
- Must be motivated and willing to participate in the Boley Centers' program activities.
Referral process:
Consumers entering Boley Centers' group homes will be placed into a LEAP Counselor's class room upon entering the program. All other referrals will be made by contacting the Director of Admissions.
