Section 8 Mainstream
Description:
The Section 8 Mainstream Housing Program for People with Disabilities expands access to safe, decent, affordable housing for eligible disabled households in Pinellas County through rental assistance. While many disable households pay more than 50% of their monthly income toward rent, recipients of a Section 8 voucher are entitled to rent assistance, requiring them to pay only 1/3 of their monthly income on rent. After an individual is granted a voucher, they are given 60 days to find an apartment that is priced no more than 20% over fair market value, as determined by HUD. Boley Centers housing staff will ensure the quality of housing meets the standards of both Boley Centers and the Department of Housing and Urban Development through regular inspections, advocacy efforts and case management activities.
In addition to rental assistance, the Section 8 program provides for a continuum of services which include case management services and links to support and social services.
